On New Year's Eve, there were 750 thousand people in the city. We saw three security helicopters in the sky hovering over Times Square all day long. At night it was a little unsettling when they shined spotlights on the tops of the skyscapers in search of snipers or terrorists, but we felt VERY safe!
The lights in the city are so bright that even when you close your eyes you can still see them!
We got up at 4:30 am to get in line for the TODAY show which began its filming at 7:00 am. When we finally entered the studio area, we had to have our bags checked and our posters examined.
Chris and I even made Ann and Matt laugh with our antics and bunny ears! I am so happy that we waited in line as long as we did. It was VERY cold, but It was worth it!
We FINALLY got to be on TV! We waited all morning to be filmed in the crowd and we kept getting ignored by the crew until I finally realized that they were saving us for last and they surprised us by bringing Willard Scott over to interview us on TV. We were so excited! We really did not mind being famous for a day in New York City, but it did not get us any FREE drinks!!
Chris and I were the only ones in New York with a set of ears like these! We got comments from lots of people and the NYPD loved us!! We were having such a fun time! I have never laughed so much. I luv Ya Chris! You are such a fun gal pal! What's the next city we leave our mark on? Las Vegas?
Well, Let's get HOPPIN' !
Do these Bunny Ears make me look FAT??
While we were waiting to talk to Willard Scott, the NBC photographer took our picture for their website. Pretty Nifty!
If you look closely at Chris' poster, you can see a Christmas picture of her kids!
They are so NICE to the crowd!
After being on the TODAY show that morning, Chris and I were recognized everywhere we went that day! People would stop us on the streets of New York City and ask "Are you the Snow Bunnies from Maine?" and we would just giggle and say, " YUP!"
After being on the TODAY show, we headed over to The Rink at Rockefellar Center, skated for a while, had lunch at a little eatery near our hotel and then hopped on the Subway that took us to Ground Zero.
As we walked around the city on the day of New Year's Eve, we noticed the increased security. There were groups of 3-5 NYPD Police Officers on every street and street corner. Being in New York City with a code ORANGE alert was a little worrisome, but we were not going to let it dampen our plans. We went everywhere and did all of the things we wanted to do in the city. Everyone was so nice to us and we met lots of people from all over the United States.
We had to go back and visit Ground Zero. We had taken a trip to New York 2 months before September 11th and we stood at the very top of the World Trade Towers. I can't believe they are gone. The atmosphere there was very somber, but we were determined that we were NOT going to let it deter us from have a wonderful time on New Year's Eve in New York City!
The impact of seeing this wall is amazing.
Yup, the ball is this small!
Bob and I tried really hard to meet up with Pete and Chris in Time Square at 4:45 pm, but we just couldn't get to them. We ran from 42nd Street all the way to 57th street before we were let into the Square. We were searched and I had to go through a metal detector too. The security was so tight that it took away a lot of the fun so Bob and I gave up and went bar hopping and saw the city! It was great because there were no crowds! We visited the park, Trump Tower and lots of other places we might not have seen. We had an AWESOME time! Near midnight we got some dinner and some soda and went to a park and watched the fireworks.
Happy New Year!
We have been to this club before. It is my MOST favorite night club to go to because it is Halloween there all year long! I highly recommend ordering The Failed Experiment. It is delicious!
We walked and walked and walked along the streets of New York City. They were practically deserted on New Year's Eve! We could hear the crowd in Times Square all the way from 62nd street and from Central Park. We were having so much fun that we even got to have a little extra fun with our digital camera!
